I first heard about Paradise: The Beginning on the Touch Arcade blog. I thought the screenshots looked interesting and it was only $0.99 so I decided to give it a try.
Paradise: The Beginning looks and controls very similar to Assault Heroes for the Xbox 360. In Paradise you control a tank that shoots green electricity. Enemies will spawn and come after you and the object of the game is to stay alive as long as possible racking up as many points as you can. In addition to your electricity shooting gun you have the ability to release a goo that will destroy enemies if they touch it. You will also come upon some health boosts and power ups as you get further.
Paradise controls surprisingly well and it feels almost exactly like an analog controller. You stick your thumbs down in the bottom right and bottom left corners and play like you normally would when you play a top down shooter with an analog controller. The background to Paradise is all hand-drawn which gives it a great touch.
At this point in time Paradise seems pretty bare bones, with no leaderboards (not even a personal leaderboard) you have to try and remember your score or write it down to even compare it to your later scores. There is also no pausing in Paradise and for the time being there is only one level. These minor drawbacks could easily change with an update so I am looking forward to see whats next for Paradise: The Beginning.
