yeah but again 2012 is pretty flimsy we've seen stuff destroyed before but compare the unimaginative redundancy of something like that to something like King Kong (jackson), Minority Report (speilberg) or Sin City (rodriguez). There is so much more genuine creativity (visual and intellectual) in those movies than practically anything from Bay or Emmerich.

I don't want to have to break out Shakespear but with a lot of movies today I reminded of "a tale told by an idiot, filled with sound and fury signifying nothing." (not to name call, but it sums it up)

I didn't like 300 that much but I respect what Zack Snyder does, how he uses CG like paint. He may not be a great director but his style at least has some genuine creativity and flair. Take the look of the Watchmen for instance.

Snyder is at least artistically expressive and uses CG as a tool of his imagination not an excuse for one. Cameron and Zemeckis are two other directors who seem to be adopting CGI as the new frontier with experimental films like Beowulf, The Polar Express and Avatar.

I agree, 300, Sin City, Gollum from LOTR, King Kong, etc need to be that way and are great. Jim Camerons 'Avatar' is supposed to be incredible too. (Reviews I've seen for D9 have been pretty positive- pretty confident I'll like it from what I saw)

At least you have District 9 to look forward to which releases today! I understand the CG argument about being lazy but I also believe some movies are just made for it. Like 300 for example...or 2012! :)

As for Transformers 2, had it been a half hour or so shorter it could have been much better.
Maybe the first time I've gotten bored with action scenes. I've enjoyed most Michael Bay films and like his style, but I couldn't wait for the desert conflict to be over. The humor annoyed me too, robot testicles, robot humping human leg, mom eating pot brownies....that's the extent of the humor. Oh well ;) We all have different taste- I'm just bummin cause this summer has been a huge disappointment of movies for me....
I'm mostly against cg too Pat- (filmmakers have decided it to use it to be lazy and cut corners instead of making something special) I fell asleep during Day the Earth Stood Still as well..... ;)

Commenting on the GI Joe discussion:
Being a GI Joe hater myself, I didn't go in with any expectation other than to be hopefully entertained......and I wasn't!
Other than the Paris chase scene it didn't do anything for me.
