Warhammer 40,000: Regicide has released onto Steam in an Early Access state. Unlike many Early Access titles, it is pretty polished and stable. The community is still hunting bugs and sharing ideas about things they would like to see implemented, to which Hammerfall Publishing is being very receptive. This level of community involvement is creating a great and positive experience for everyone. It also reinforces exactly what Steam Early Access can be when it’s done properly and with respect to consumers. I wish more Steam Early Access games released in a solid Beta state like Regicide is currently.
So what exactly is Warhammer 40,000: Regicide? A lot of people think that Regicide will just be another chess game or will be nothing more than a game similar to Battle Chess: Game of Kings. The reason for this is because up until now Regicide has only been mentioned in a few Warhammer 40K novels written by Dan Abnett (Eisenhorn Trilogy and Straight Silver). Dan Abnett gave excellent descriptions, but this is all we have had to go by. Regicide is much more than a Battle Chess spiritual successor, although it does have some elements present. Take an exclusive look at this kill trailer.
One quick disclaimer before you start clicking on any videos. Warhammer 40,000: Regicide is rated M for Mature for Intense Violence, Blood, and Gore, all of which are present in full detail in the trailer below. This trailer does fully use in game assets. The below video will show exactly what to expect when playing Regicide.
It’s not chess; it’s Regicide
Waaagh! After watching that trailer I am ready to go to war in Warhammer 40,000: Regicide. While Regicide does utilize chess and strategy elements, it also adds in several Warhammer 40K dynamics. Ever play chess and wish you could toss that annoying pawn off the game board before it has an opportunity to move into a position to block your check? Now you can respond to this pesky menace with bolter fire and destroy it where it stands before it even thinks about blocking your check.
Everyday Gamers covered the launch trailer reveal of Warhammer 40,000: Regicide here. Feel free to view the launch trailer and read the information that was previously covered in February.
Time to take a behind-the-scenes peek
Hammerfall Publishing, the development studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Regicide, has released some First Look videos with more planned to come. I advise watching them, because they really help explain exactly what Regicide is intended to be.
Developer Q&A Video
I want to share this video just to show how open and communicative the Hammerfall Publishing staff has been with the community. They’ve really taken a hands-on and personal approach to answering and responding to questions that the Warhammer 40K community has. I personally value this level of interaction and wish more game developers would take the time to get so involved with their communities. It’s the little things and attention to detail that turn a game from good to great.
Last but not least
