Red Dead Redemption
0 CommentsPosted by David Lange on June 4, 2010 under PS3 Reviews, Reviews, Xbox 360 Reviews
I had never really played a Western video game prior to Red Dead Redemption, partially because of their infrequency and partially because I lacked the interest in a genre that seemed like it wouldn't hold up as well as the familiar sci-fi and post apocalyptia that dominated the landscape. Compared with the creativity of weapons and enemies afforded by genres spawned exclusively by the artist... more. -

Let's play our own version of Desert Island. Let's supposed that Netflix decides to institute a new policy that reduces your streaming que to only 10 films, upon watching which your subscription will terminate. All of the sudden you can't just throw any old thing into your que so, the question is which 10 films are you going to watch. Netflix Streaming, 50 Films: Week 4
2 CommentsPosted by David Lange on August 23, 2009 under PC Features, PS3 Features, Wii Features, Xbox 360 Features
After a brief hiatus, the list returns with two film's that demonstrate the versatility and range of the Western, a Documentary that spans 4 years and a silent epic, 4000. After the Thin Man (1936) Though the series began to tire a little as it lost it's novelty in later sequels, the direct successor to The Thin Man followed in the footsteps of the original brilliantly, doing everything right as... more. -
Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta

Never let it be said Bethesda hasn't supported Fallout 3 since it's release late last year. Demonstrating a dedication to the post apocalyptic behemoth of sandbox gaming the company has consistently released new DLC episodes on such a regular basis it's clear they thinking about these scenarios and all the possibilities they explore as they developed the main game. Now that we've explored every... more.

Netflix Streaming, 50 Films: Week 3
2 CommentsPosted by David Lange on August 2, 2009 under PC Features, PS3 Features, Wii Features, Xbox 360 Features
Halfway through our 50 films we pause to consider the cost of war on the human soul as well as questioning it's very substance. This week's selection is dominated by war movies but more broadly, human studies. These 10 films range in genre and style but all explore the human condition, the nature of the soul, the value of our own humanity, the loss of innocence, the loss of life and it's brevity. ... more. -
Netflix Streaming, 50 Films: Week 2

With 10 films already behind us, we make it an even 20 with this week's list, including two of the best Noir ever made, two very different war films, a creature feature, a costume adventure and a comedic con game. Our list also further matures with a tragic and sobering documentary and a mature psychological thriller from Japan. The Adventures of Robin hood (1938) A merry swashbuckling adventu... more.

Netflix Streaming, 50 films: Week 1

Netflix streaming through NXE is probably one of the coolest things of all time. Okay that's an exaggeration...but only slightly. It's an awesome feature that has changed the way I watch movies and, with Netflix already established as a household name, one that I think has become a standard amenity for most gamers with a Live subscription. Of course the service is only as good as the movies on ... more.

Fallout 3: Point Lookout
0 CommentsPosted by David Lange on June 30, 2009 under PC Reviews, PS3 Reviews, Xbox 360 Reviews
Point Lookout is billed in as the most open ended, free roaming Fallout 3 DLC yet and as Bethesda describes it along these lines, you'd expect it to be the biggest and best. I anticipated great things but also wondered if the lack of a storyline meant the studio was looking for a way to simply produce supplemental content without having to expend a lot of time and resources developing a plot. The ... more.

At it's press conference this morning Nintendo, who had previously stated that new installments of it's title properties where in development, made good on that promise, showing the trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2. The game looks similar to the original in terms of gameplay, which is not a bad thing, by any means. The lengthy trailer is comprised entirely of gameplay and offers little informat... more.

E309: Microsoft Announces Motion Sensor
2 CommentsPosted by David Lange on June 1, 2009 under Xbox 360 News
According to Microsoft, the future of gaming for everyone is not motion control but motion recognition. Today during their E3 press conference Microsoft, in a demonstration of unprecedented console technology, unveiled it's answer to the Wii, in the form of Natal, a sensor bar that doesn't rely on a controller for input but recognizes and reads the motion of your body. It was surreal watching t... more.

Zune HD: Microsoft Handheld?

Recent speculation about Microsoft's rumored entry into the handheld market finds tentative confirmation in the announcement of the Zune HD. The latest most advanced version of the Zune brand will have Wi-Fi capabilities and be integrated into Xbox Live as an extension of Microsoft's service. The device is less auspiciously a handheld gaming console but Microsoft may be being very smart here, taki... more.

The Grinder

Wii owners may finally have a legitimate reason to have internet access. In an exclusive unveiling IGN premiered an upcoming 4 player co-op monster shooter called The Grinder. With the campy style of it's poster and over the top, tongue in cheek styling, I'd say it's going for a Grindhouse-esque vibe and something similar to Left 4 Dead in terms of gameplay. The game is being developed by High ... more.
