0 CommentsPosted by Laren Hawkins on January 30, 2010 under Handheld Features, PC Features, PS3 Features, Wii Features, Xbox 360 Features
Violence is something that is all around us. We here at Everyday Gamers wanted to address the issue of Media Violence. In particularity, in this first article, we want to address how Video Games are misunderstood and how video games compare to other forms of media violence. In 2005, the Kaiser Family Foundation surveyed 2032 children from grades 3 through 12. This survey is just a minuet part... more. -

You ever notice people like nice, defined labels? As much as we like to pretend we live in a world full of shades of gray, we usually see it in black and white. People are Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal, outgoing or introverted. We use these labels because they help simplify the world around us, even if they do sometimes lead to an us versus them mentality. As Gamers, we use th... more. -

This is the third in our series of articles about GameStop. In the Case Against Gamestop articles, we explained from both a Customer and Employee perspective just why we at Everyday Gamers have taken such a strong stand against the company. The biggest video game retailer in North America has not exactly helped its case since then by breaking street dates on major holiday titles. If it was possibl... more. -
Digital Distribution: Our Thoughts
0 CommentsPosted by Laren Hawkins on December 14, 2009 under Handheld Features, PC Features, PS3 Features, Wii Features, Xbox 360 Features, iPhone/Mobile Features
Digital Distribution is definitely starting to be a new trend in gaming. However, unlike motion controls, I am more apt as a gamer to move with this trend. Digital distribution is not something new to the consumers however. The 360 uses it with movies, even Xbox originals. while there are very successful forms of digital distribution i.e. Steam, it can also be a gamble i.e. PSP Go. So what are our... more. -

Do Street Dates Matter?
1 CommentsPosted by Eric Bouchard on December 13, 2009 under Handheld Features, PC Features, PS3 Features, Wii Features, Xbox 360 Features
By now, you are probably aware of the controversy over street dates for games. Certain GameStops were ordered by their corporate office to break the November 10th street date for Modern Warfare 2, sighting retailers in the area who had already broken the sale date on what is expected to be the biggest game this year. Then last week, a few stores in Jersey City broke street date on Assassin's Creed... more. -
Soul Calibur : Broken Destiny

With the mixed success of Soul Calibur on the PS3 and the Xbox 360, and the pedigree of good fighting games on the PSP, such as Darkstalkers, Mortal Kombat and Tekken, an iteration of Soul Calibur for the PSP seemed like a slam dunk. Add in the ability to use Kratos as a playable character right out of the box, and this is a day one purchase to breathe life back into the PSP right? Apparently ... more. -

Starting next year, Gamestop is going to cater to DLC lovers. How you may ask, they are going to sell DLC... IN THEIR STORES. Ok, so something called Downloadable content, which can be DOWNLOADED in the comfort of your own home, is going to be sold in store? I honestly want to know who came up with this idea. I can't see consumers making a trip just to get something they can download anywhere. All... more.

How many of you are a proud owner of a DSi? I know I am. Well, it just so happens that in Japan, Nintendo is releasing another iteration of its very successful hand held. The new system is called the DSi L L/XL. You may be asking yourself, why in the world would they call it xl? Well for one reason, its bigger, MUCH BIGGER. The DSi XL measures 161 x 91.4 x 21.2 mm (6.34 x 3.6 x 0.83"), 1.61x the... more.

PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe

PixelJunk Monsters, in case you didn't know, is a tower defense game that was originally released on the Playstation Network back in January of '08. An expansion pack titled "PJM Encore" was then released in May of '08. PJM took advantage of the remote play function of the PS3 and PSP but it looked blurry and wasn't even comparable to the crisp look of playing it on the PS3. The way I looked at it... more.

Gameloft has released it's much anticipated first person shooter "Modern Combat: Sandstorm." Modern Combat is gameloft's first FPS. As of the writing of this I've only played about 10 minutes of the game but I can say it is very impressive. It's not a dumbed-down version of an FPS it's an FPS like the ones we've become accustomed to on consoles. Check out TouchArcade's hand's on gameplay video bel... more.

30 Reviews in 30 Days, Day 28: Chrono Trigger
0 CommentsPosted by Eric Bouchard on August 30, 2009 under Handheld Reviews, Retro Reviews
There was a time when I had one top game of all time. You would ask me what was the best game I ever played, and I would point to one cartridge on the SNES that ate up more of my time than any other. This game more than any made me an RPG fan, and I always felt it was the crown jewel of Square Enix (just Square at the time), and not the Final Fantasy games. That game is Chrono Trigger. Now, ... more.

Some games are just addicting in a way that really defies explanation. Tetris was that type of game. All we actually did in this game was complete lines, and yet we played it for hours on end. If you think about it, there are probably several different games you could list in this category. Just think of those games you go back to time and time again and yet really cannot explain just what draws y... more.

30 Reviews in 30 Days, Day 16: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
1 CommentsPosted by Eric Bouchard on August 17, 2009 under Handheld Reviews
Okay, if you have played Castlevania games before, you know they follow a certain formula: Dracula is trying to once again take control of the world, and it is your job as a legendary vampire killer, often a member of the Belmont family, to stop him. This formula has been repeated over and over again with some variations. Of course most gamers are familiar with Symphony of the Night, which changed... more.
