So I wanted to take a minute to reflect, not on what 2009 has brought to the gaming table, but on what this current generation has ushered into gaming, and discuss on whether it was going to bring better or worse issues to gaming. We've all been there - comfy chair, cold beverage and a bag of Cheetos on the end table all ready to settle into a night of fragging with our friends. There's nothin... more. -

Violence is something that is all around us. We here at Everyday Gamers wanted to address the issue of Media Violence. In particularity, in this first article, we want to address how Video Games are misunderstood and how video games compare to other forms of media violence. In 2005, the Kaiser Family Foundation surveyed 2032 children from grades 3 through 12. This survey is just a minuet part... more. -

You ever notice people like nice, defined labels? As much as we like to pretend we live in a world full of shades of gray, we usually see it in black and white. People are Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal, outgoing or introverted. We use these labels because they help simplify the world around us, even if they do sometimes lead to an us versus them mentality. As Gamers, we use th... more. -

This is the third in our series of articles about GameStop. In the Case Against Gamestop articles, we explained from both a Customer and Employee perspective just why we at Everyday Gamers have taken such a strong stand against the company. The biggest video game retailer in North America has not exactly helped its case since then by breaking street dates on major holiday titles. If it was possibl... more. -
Digital Distribution: Our Thoughts
0 CommentsPosted by Laren Hawkins on December 14, 2009 under Handheld Features, PC Features, PS3 Features, Wii Features, Xbox 360 Features, iPhone/Mobile Features
Digital Distribution is definitely starting to be a new trend in gaming. However, unlike motion controls, I am more apt as a gamer to move with this trend. Digital distribution is not something new to the consumers however. The 360 uses it with movies, even Xbox originals. while there are very successful forms of digital distribution i.e. Steam, it can also be a gamble i.e. PSP Go. So what are our... more. -

Do Street Dates Matter?
1 CommentsPosted by Eric Bouchard on December 13, 2009 under Handheld Features, PC Features, PS3 Features, Wii Features, Xbox 360 Features
By now, you are probably aware of the controversy over street dates for games. Certain GameStops were ordered by their corporate office to break the November 10th street date for Modern Warfare 2, sighting retailers in the area who had already broken the sale date on what is expected to be the biggest game this year. Then last week, a few stores in Jersey City broke street date on Assassin's Creed... more. -

Gamestop: Another Bad Move

Starting next year, Gamestop is going to cater to DLC lovers. How you may ask, they are going to sell DLC... IN THEIR STORES. Ok, so something called Downloadable content, which can be DOWNLOADED in the comfort of your own home, is going to be sold in store? I honestly want to know who came up with this idea. I can't see consumers making a trip just to get something they can download anywhere. All... more.

A Boy and His Blob (Wii)

I remember growing up playing A Boy and His Blob for the NES with my best friend John. We never really got very far in the game but just the fact that they made a game called "A Boy and His Blob" was reason enough to make us play it. It's funny to see that someone has taken the initiative to make a re-make of the title. Ever since it was announced I thought it was a great idea, especially with the... more.

LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias Announced

Frontier has announced the sequel to LostWinds titled "LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias." I was very happy to hear this because I was a huge fan of the original LostWinds. LostWinds is definitely my favorite game on WiiWare so this is great news. The big change in Winter of the Melodias is the fact that you can switch between seasons, summer and winter. Seeing that the game has a large emphasis o... more.

After a brief hiatus, the list returns with two film's that demonstrate the versatility and range of the Western, a Documentary that spans 4 years and a silent epic, 4000. After the Thin Man (1936) Though the series began to tire a little as it lost it's novelty in later sequels, the direct successor to The Thin Man followed in the footsteps of the original brilliantly, doing everything right as... more. -
Gamestop Vs. Best Buy: Round 2

I recently wrote about how Best Buy was matching Gamestop's prices. Well, it seems that Gamestop is paying attention. In that post I said that Gamestop could make their used games prices lower. Well, they did just that. I am not trying to gloat, I am saying that this is exactly what needs to happen. Gamestop is finally starting to realize that they need to change their ways. Why Video Games Are More Than Just Entertainment
3 CommentsPosted by Laren Hawkins on August 12, 2009 under Handheld News, PC News, PS3 News, Retro News, Wii News, Xbox 360 News, iPhone/Mobile News
With all these rumors and talks about Video Games becoming movies, it produces a lot of hype and excitement. As a gamer however, I have a different outlook on it. The Story I have found that some of the best stories are not found in books or movies, but rather Video Games. The fact that you are essentially the character, only adds to the story. With games like Fallout 3, the player makes the... more.

Another Guitar Hero?
2 CommentsPosted by Laren Hawkins on under PC News, PS3 News, Wii News, Xbox 360 News
I recently read a posting on how Sony is giving away Guitar Hero: Van Halen for free . Let me explain before I continue. Basically, you buy Guitar Hero 5 and get the Van Halen edition theme for "free". In all reality though, you still have to pay for something. This is still a good deal considering how many editions of Guitar Hero that are put out each year. Maybe Sony is realizing that people don... more.
