Tonight in Los Angeles was Treyarch's big reveal party for their upcoming Call of Duty title, Black Ops. During the event (which I believe is still going on as I write this) they showed some new and exciting changes for their next installment that is sure to excite fans of the game. So instead of me rambling on, let me tell you some of the things you may have missed. Treyarch understands th... more. -
Monday Night Combat
0 CommentsPosted by Eric Bouchard on August 16, 2010 under Features, Reviews, Xbox 360 Features, Xbox 360 Reviews
Remember in my Summer of Arcade article where I said I was looking forward to Monday Night Combat more than any of the other games coming out, including Hydro Thunder Hurricane? The only problem with the game was the timing of the release; having just picked up StarCraft II, I thought I was going to have a hard time playing enough of Uber Entertainment's XBLA offering to give it a proper review an... more. -
LIMBO

Have you ever had a dream that felt so real but you couldn't remember it enough to explain it? That's kind of how my experience felt while playing Limbo. The masterminds behind the eerie world that is Limbo, are a company called "Playdead" who is based out of Copenhagen, Denmark. While this may be the teams first project together, it definitely does not show. Playdead is now a studio that ... more. -
XBOX Live Summer of Arcade Preview
1 CommentsPosted by Eric Bouchard on July 18, 2010 under Features, Xbox 360 Features
Been wondering about the games in this year's XBOX Live Summer of Arcade? Maybe you wanted to know if any of them were really going to be worth the hassle of getting MS points to purchase. If only there was someone who got a chance to try games who could advise you on what he thought of them. Oh wait, there is. I got to play all but one of them at E3, and the one I did not get to play is about ... more. -
Medal Of Honor Multiplayer BETA Impressions
0 CommentsPosted by Kevin Clark on July 5, 2010 under Features, PC Features, PS3 Features, Xbox 360 Features
As we all know and heard from E3 this year, EA has released a multiplayer beta for the PC, PS3, and the Xbox 360. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the beta for the PS3, and honestly I was quite impressed on what I've played. After 4 hours or so of play time, I am ready to give my impressions of EA's Medal of Honor, which could be its last chance to redeem itself. As soon as I started m... more. -
Too Much of a Good Thing?

Those of us reading this article are probably not unlike myself--a listener of gaming podcasts, subscriber of gaming feeds, avid player, article reader, video game junkie. Maybe, unlike me, you have never stopped and thought how crazy our hobby is. I've heard there is no one that hates their own hobby more than gamers, and I can't disagree. A quick look at the venom spewing on any gaming for... more. -
Good Grief: Bad Endings – Fable II
0 CommentsPosted by Eric Bouchard on June 28, 2010 under Features, Xbox 360 Features
Anyone who looks at my top games of all time will see Fable II sits rather prominently on that list. When I did my "30 Reviews in 30 Days," I had mentioned I might even consider it my favorite game of all time, though it may have been supplanted by Mass Effect 2. While the game was almost unanimously praised by critics, there was one part of it many felt was a let down: the ending. So just what... more. -

EA’s Online Pass. A Line In The Sand.
0 CommentsPosted by Jordan de Boer on May 18, 2010 under Features, PS3 Features, Xbox 360 Features
When I first heard of EA's "Project Ten Dollar", I was a little skeptical. Some time has passed since it's inception, and given the mediocrity of day one DLC and pre-order bonuses, I've been less then satisfied with the fruits of the "Project Ten Dollar" tree. It's completely understandable why a consumer would want to save money by purchasing products used, but at the same time it's understandabl... more. -
Can Gaming Become an Addiction? A Gamer’s Story
0 CommentsPosted by Eric Bouchard on May 13, 2010 under Features, Handheld Features, PC Features, PS3 Features, Wii Features, Xbox 360 Features
There is a debate raging in the gaming community right now. Everywhere you look, gamers and those who do not play are arguing over whether or not there is such a thing as gaming addiction. The studies are inconclusive; every time you hear about a study backing the existence of video game addiction, you find numerous stories debunking it. Even gamers seem to be split on the issue; while many want t... more. -
“MY CONSOLE IS THE BEST!” How Fanboys Are Hurting Gamers

We've all been there. You are having an honest conversation with someone about the strengths of the various consoles. Maybe a friend has come to you for advice on which would be best for them, or you and your coworkers are talking about what you like and do not like about that. Suddenly someone steps up and says something that just makes you cringe. "Yeah, but you don't want to own a 360. Every... more. -
Good Grief: Bad Endings – Batman Arkham Asylum

Picture this: you have dedicated several hours to your latest gaming endeavor. Each battle has been getting harder; each step has put you that much closer to that final battle, just you versus your nemesis. You come to that ending, expecting it to be the culmination of all the time you have put into the game. Then it happens: a lackluster battle against a boss weaker than many of the ones you have... more. -
Mass Ineffective: Why Mass Effect 2 is barely an RPG.
1 CommentsPosted by Jordan de Boer on March 17, 2010 under Features, PC Features, Xbox 360 Features
It's impossible to deny the success of Mass Effect 2. Both critically and commercially the game shattered expectations everywhere. A sure fire contender for game of the year, you might be wondering why I would want to criticize such a beloved game. Well, I'm not going to try and convince anyone that Mass Effect 2 is anything short of a masterpiece, but I do have a few gripes. In reality thes... more. -
Re-Enlisting for Active Duty?
0 CommentsPosted by Chris Maeurer on March 2, 2010 under Features, PC Features, PS3 Features, Xbox 360 Features
So it's only March, and already the rumors for the future of the Call Of Duty Franchise are swarming like Charlie in the Jungle. What does everyone think about the possibilities? I'd like to take a moment to review what we've seen from Activision slightly tipping their hand, and what I'd hope to expect from this. With the booming sales of Modern Warfare 2 and the seemingly impossible bar set... more. -
Good Grief: The Turrets of Dead Space

Ever been playing a really good game and suddenly run across a section that just makes you wonder what the designers were thinking? Maybe the plot takes a turn for the ridiculous, or maybe you run across a gameplay mechanic that seems unfinished or out of place. It doesn't ruin the game, but it does make you wonder just who thought it was appropriate for this game. That's the idea behind the Go... more. -

So I wanted to take a minute to reflect, not on what 2009 has brought to the gaming table, but on what this current generation has ushered into gaming, and discuss on whether it was going to bring better or worse issues to gaming. We've all been there - comfy chair, cold beverage and a bag of Cheetos on the end table all ready to settle into a night of fragging with our friends. There's nothin... more. -
Media Violence And Its Effects: The Problem We Face

Violence is something that is all around us. We here at Everyday Gamers wanted to address the issue of Media Violence. In particularity, in this first article, we want to address how Video Games are misunderstood and how video games compare to other forms of media violence. In 2005, the Kaiser Family Foundation surveyed 2032 children from grades 3 through 12. This survey is just a minuet part... more. -
The Blurring Line Between Casual and Core

You ever notice people like nice, defined labels? As much as we like to pretend we live in a world full of shades of gray, we usually see it in black and white. People are Republican or Democrat, Conservative or Liberal, outgoing or introverted. We use these labels because they help simplify the world around us, even if they do sometimes lead to an us versus them mentality. As Gamers, we use th... more. -
