As Christians we are ambassadors for Christ in all we do… So as a Christian gamers where is the fence….Rated M….too much violence….should we be strict..loose or somewhere in between? 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 |

I am not sure there is an easy answer for this. A lot of this one is going to come down to personal conviction. I know I hit a point in games where the violence just gets to be a little too much, but it is not usually the amount of blood but whom the violence is directed towards. A great example is Modern Warfare 2. I have never and will never buy that game because of the No Russian level. I could not justify supporting a game where you were specifically targeting civilians in an airport. |

Thank Eric this question has been bothering me for a while….it just seems weird to be Christian and play L4D (back when I had a console) so I ended up getting rid of it. |

It is a tough question and I agree with Eric. I also think it depends on who you are and if that stuff is affecting your “walk with Christ” for example. We’ll never really know until we get to heaven but I have a hard to believing that by playing Left 4 Dead God is frowning upon me. As long as He gets my focus more than the games do then I think it’s fine. Also, I am going to take the other route with the No Russion level. For me it didn’t bother me. I’ll even go as far as to say I shot people in the mission. Does that mean I have problems? No, I don’t think so at all. The only thing that I questioned was why Rockstar did it and what were they hoping to accomplish with it. I think we all know the answer is “shock factor and controversy” and if that’s so then whatever. For once we were not shooting the “bad guys” and that made it a lot more intriguing to me. You also had the choice not to shoot anyone, so it was left up to you to make the decision and I don’t think either was the “bad decision”. |

I understand the fact of if it get more time and how it affects you……I just needed to learn a lesson of self-control,plus playing these games in a Christian fellowship where the focus is on God makes it a whole lot better. This question has just been on my heart for a while and I just needed a little counsel on this. Thanks Eric and Patrick. |

Somthing that seems to be bothering me is that I keep remembering when Jesus says Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks….and we fill our heart by what we watch, listen to, and read. So it’s like say I play MW2 for 1 hr a day and give God 3hrs a day…my heart is still being polluted, desensitized, and twisted. The games still affect you in the long run….so that’s what I’m feeling put on my heart. |

If you are feeling that conviction, then I would say run with it. God speaks to different people about different things and in different ways. |

That is a really tough question. I have to play devil’s advocate here. I know that a lot, a LOT of Christian gamers will say exactly what Eric did….that it boils down to conviction. And I am not picking on Eric when I discuss this, I agree, to a degree about this position. That said, I think too many people use it as a crutch. There are times it is used validly, and there are times we throw it out just so we can keep doing what we want to, or to justify something we shouldn’t do. Now before you react to this let’s consider the rest of this line of thinking—the only one’s who can correctly analyze which side of that line that you stand on are yourself and God. It is up to us to maintain that relationship with Him and pursue Him so that we can police ourselves and keep ourselves in check, way before anything gets out of hand for others around us to notice. I will certainly admit that I have given ground and time to gaming that I could have better spent for something in the kingdom. I wonder what God has in store for me in the future. What I do know, for myself, is that I am afforded some measure of leisure time to game, so, for now, I take advantage of that time. I also know that this is one season in my life, that may ultimately come to a close. For now, I have time to game in this season–it doesn’t negatively impact my marriage or my walk and it’s a bonding experience I share with my children. I do not doubt, however, that this season may someday end and God will require me to move on to other things, for that I am aware and ready. I don’t know if that answers your question well, but feel free to let us know! :O) |

I’m glad you guys are gonna talk about it on the podcast and after talking with my youth church worship leader I understand the conviction thing and one day I’ll be back on the gaming train. As for now I’ve actually been thinking about making a Christian video game based on the wars of David and the battle of Revelation. I am of course still gonna support the show any way I can…..thank you all for saying your views on this. |

OK, that sounds like a really interesting game! It’s tough to find any Christian video games that aren’t overly cheesy or poorly done, I’d love to see a studio that innovated and made some creative Christian video games(not related to Bible trivia or VeggieTales). |

So the podcast has been posted, and we got in depth into the topic. Let us know what you think.
The wars of David, huh? That could be really good. I agree with Chris; many of the Christian Video Games are just really cheesy. People need to stop trying to make a good Christian game and instead make a good game that is Christian. That may sound one and the same, but they are not. |

I’m glad that you took time to make this 3 hour tour just for this one question……after speaking to a few people in my life I can fully understand what you are all talking about, personnel conviction. Thank you Eric, Chris, and Patrick for all the insight. |

As for the game idea I actually want it to be open world for the wars of David game with skyrim elements in leveling up and assassins creed way of movement and battle. |
